Photocatalytic arc-flash is a liquid paint whose main ingredient is titanium dioxide (tio2). It requires a quick-drying water-based binder and becomes water-insoluble after drying. The product also reacts to temperature.

Arc-flash is a "photocatalyst" using titanium dioxide mixed with a binding agent. The titanium dioxide (tio2) will react with light and destroy almost all types of biological agents or organic matter that it comes in contact with. The resultant byproducts are harmless co2 and h2o.

Development of arc-flash began from around 1990, and an early prototype was completed at the end of 1998. Improvements have been made since then to achieve the present form of arc-flash.

Photocatalytic arc-flash is applied only by technicians licensed for such application. The product is not sold directly to customers.

Technical information is distributed to application technicians throughout Japan 24 hours a day via the internet.
